BENEFITS DERIVED FROM ACCURATE, WELL CONSTRUCTED BILLS OF MATERIALS (BOMs).

Bills of Materials have long been recognized as essential for plant integrity and for both maintenance and inventory performance.

The primary benefit of BOMs is the quick, accurate identification of materials for a specific maintenance task. This in turn leads to faster maintenance turnarounds because maintenance personnel can quickly assess accurate materials requirements and determine if sufficient inventory is available. Alternatively the information can be used to expedite delivery.

Additional benefits are achieved through the establishment of purchasing agreements with suppliers which identify the importance of the equipment to which these parts will be fitted.  By generating requisitions directly from BOMs supply risk is significantly reduced both at the point of selection and information transfer to suppliers.

Accurate BOMs provide many other benefits including identification of alternative materials, assessing inventory criticality and identification of obsolete inventory.

The benefits of high quality Bills of Material are clear, however many organizations often struggle to create this information. Oniqua, through its content cleansing capabilities and analytical tools, is able to assist in the rapid construction and maintenance of Bills of Materials. By using tools to interrogate historical usage to generate pro forma Bills of Material from work order history, Oniqua can provide an economic and timely outcome.

WRAP UP OF THIS YEAR'S ONIQUA REGIONAL USER WORKSHOPS

This year we decided to go with a different format in place of the annual Oniqua User Conference.  This year we held two regional user workshops, one in Salt Lake City, USA and one in Brisbane, Australia.    The Regional Workshops focused on customer case studies, workshopping of business problems and their solutions, knowledge sharing in the use of Oniqua Analytics Suite (OAS) and Oniqua Standards Dictionary (OSD), OAS Roadmap and product directions, feedback from the Oniqua User Advisory Forum and hands-on OAS usage time.

The Americas Regional Workshop was held at Little America (despite the name a large and grand hotel). OAS users representing Oil & Gas, Mining and Utilities industry attended.  Case studies were presented by BHP Billiton, ConocoPhillips, Rio Tinto, Newmont Nevada and Freeport.  Curtis Barton from Rio Tinto Procurement presented on the User Advisory Forum activities during the year and led a panel discussion on determining the most important directions and enhancements required to Oniqua products and services.  Lindsay Clarke, the Oniqua Inc President, discussed the roles and objectives of the new, expanded Oniqua Americas’ team.

The Workshop was repeated for APAC users in Australia at the Brisbane Hilton the following week.  The APAC workshop had some additional sessions and more of a focus on procurement and master data content, it included a case study on Supplier Performance Management presented by Murray Elton of ActewAGL. Damian O’Hara of BHP Billiton led the Advisory Forum feedback and panel discussion.  There was a large degree of overlap in ideas and priorities between the two Workshops. One point of difference is that the economic recovery appears stronger in APAC region, and is almost back to boom times in some commodities. This is reflected in a greater focus on risk management, for example supply risk, in APAC.
The new format was very well received by delegates; feedback was that the knowledge sharing was particularly valuable.   As such we plan to hold Workshops in this format again next year.

A big thank you to the User Advisory Forum members and Oniqua staff who brought this new format together and delivered these Workshops.  Oniqua is also delighted to welcome Anglo Coal Australia, Energex and Ergon as new members of the User Advisory Forum (APAC Chapter).

ONIQUA WILL JOIN PANEL AT ARC ANNUAL ADVISORY FORUM ORLANDO FEB 8-11, 2010

Oniqua will sit on a panel at the upcoming ARC Annual Forum in Orlando, which takes place February 8-11. The panel discussion will be held on Wednesday morning, February 10 as part of the Winning IT Strategies for Asset Performance Management session:

Winning IT Strategies for Asset Performance Management
Ensuring that everyone has convenient access to the right information at the right time is vital for effective Asset Performance Management. But achieving this goal is challenging.  Asset information comes in many forms and is created and consumed by a variety of IT solutions and O&M stakeholders.  Enabling information sharing across all of these sources and ensuring proper change management requires a proper Asset Information Management strategy and a collaborative IT platform.

This session will begin with case-studies of the Asset Information Management strategies being adopted by leading companies to gain control of their  information assets. Following this ARC will facilitate a panel discussion with owner/operators and IT solution providers about current challenges and future directions in IT technology and solutions for this area.

This session continues ARC's ongoing efforts to educate people about the enormous opportunities in Asset Information Management and keep them abreast of successful strategies.  This will be a valuable learning experience for anyone who is involved in Asset Information Management, whether they are an owner/operator, a supplier of O&M services or an IT solution provider.
